The Return Is the Last Step, Not the Whole Job.
By the time a return is being prepared, most of the outcome is already fixed. The numbers on the form were settled months earlier — by how money came out of the business, whether an election was filed on time, and what was or wasn't documented along the way.
So we treat preparation as the close of a year's work rather than a task that begins in February. The return reports the decisions. The decisions are where the value sits.
That shapes who we are built for. If your situation is a W-2 and a standard deduction, a return is a form-filling exercise and should be priced like one — our approach would be more than the situation calls for, and we will say so on a first call.
Where it earns its place is everything past that. A business with employees. A second entity. Property. A year where income jumped or collapsed. In those situations, a return prepared without context tends to cost far more than any fee it saved.
